About the Artwork
The nostalgic narrative artwork St. Johns Blues is part of artist Michael Lindenmeyer's "Boxcar Series", which combine images of the natural landscape with old industrial elements such as lumber mills and boxcars. This piece depicts a cityscape in north Portland, Oregon, featuring the defunct Gas Company building and the St. Johns Bridge, which spans the Willamette River.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Natural Resources.
About the Artist
Michael Lindenmeyer is an Oregon and Olympia, Washington-based painter. He spent many summers in the 1980s in the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend, Washington where he rented a studio above the Town Tavern. His artworks tell mythic stories about the West Coast landscape and the consequences of industrialization.
