About the Artwork

Children in Field is a hand-painted photograph by artist Patricia Ridenour. The image was captured in Okanogan, Washington on the artist's parent's farm. It depicts her nieces and nephew observing a flock of Canada geese. She notes, "I was struck by the relationship between the children. The oldest was leading the two younger by the hands. Yet the youngest broke away, unable to contain her exuberance. I saw that moment as a symbol of their life path. Approaching an uncertain future, finding solace in each other, being pulled away by desire, interests, and other outside influences. The photograph is a symbol for each of us, at all times of our life."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Cle Elum-Roslyn School District.
