About the Artwork

PB and the Spotted Owls is part of artist Michael Lindenmeyer's series of paintings about Paul Bunyan. These imaginative artworks place the giant lumberjack in different contexts and environments. This piece asks the viewer to think about the logging industry and our relationship to the land in the Pacific Northwest. The loss of our old-growth forests due to logging threatens Spotted Owl populations in Washington.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Administrative Office of the Courts.

About the Artist

Michael Lindenmeyer is an Oregon and Olympia, Washington-based painter. He spent many summers in the 1980s in the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend, Washington where he rented a studio above the Town Tavern. His artworks tell mythic stories about the West Coast landscape and the consequences of industrialization.
