About the Artwork
When the Past Becomes the Future is part of artist Patricia Glander Martinez's body of geometric landscape paintings that focus on cloud formations and explore mood, hue, space, and form. She terms this style "mystical abstraction" and notes "I feel that the sky with its lack of limits and with its changing colors and forms is the most fascinating 'object' that we can observe." This piece uses layers of sky and a striking red line to symbolize converging cycles and sequences of time.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Clark College.
