About the Artwork

Sunflower is a photograph by artist Carolyn MacKay. She created this abstracted composition by shooting through a rippled glass vase. Her experimentation with this method of distortion grew into a portfolio of abstract flower images. These artworks illustrate the dramatic forms that can be found in the simplest of flowers.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Seattle Public Schools.

About the Artist

Seattle-based photographer Carolyn MacKay started her artistic career in her late thirties with a body of work that evolved from naturalistic still-life and landscape compositions into abstracted studies of flowers and nature.
