About the Artwork
Artists Rebecca Cummins and Paul DeMarinis' three-part installation ‘Lunar Drift' offers viewers an insight into our spatial and temporal place in the universe. The kinetic sculpture ‘Lunar Drift' features two mechanisms that move slowly over time to track the position of the moon and the sun. Thhese mechanisms form the basis of all clocks and calendars. Located at Western Washington University in the city of Bellingham in Northwestern Washington, the sculpture is supported by two installations on nearby walls. These graphics show the phases of the moon and changes in the Bellingham sky throughout 2014.
