Whistler's Rush, 2002

Stephen Zimmerman
American (born 1972)

Location: Stewart Elementary, Puyallup

About the Artwork

Artist Steven Zimmerman captured the photograph Whistler's Rush while traveling through British Columbia, Canada. He shot this image outside of the ski-town of Whistler. He used a great depth of field to keep many elements of the landscape in focus. This allowed him to highlight the contrast between rushing water and the variations in the texture of the rocks. He notes, " The idea behind the work is to encourage the slowing down of life to a point where, every once in a while, people look at their surroundings ... the places that do not already have a 'scenic viewpoint' sign or space designated specifically as bearing art."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Puyallup School District.
