About the Artwork

Artist Rachel Brumer created the art quilt Marker III, A True Pioneer. She made it using hand-dyed fabrics with appliqued, printed, and stenciled pieces. This quilt is part of her 'Marker' Series that pay tribute to women and their legacy by featuring text from their gravestones. She notes, "The text from this particular piece comes from a cemetery on Queen Anne Hill, in Seattle, WA."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.
