About the Artwork

Artist Silya Kiese created Birth using metal, stone, and painted wood. It is part of her series of eighteen sculptures studying movement, light, and time. She cut the two curved metal pieces from sheet metal, and balanced the three parts of the sculpture using a magnet. She notes, "Birth conveys the cycle of movement and change in nature. The sphere known as an organic, complex form is also an embodiment of a universal symbol for peace and growth."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.
