About the Artwork
Cosmic Lights is an energetic and gestural landscape painting by artist Ed Praczukowski. The imagery shows a stylized interpretation of the northern lights, or Aurora Borealis. The artist states that this piece is part of a body of paintings inspired by the vastness of the universe. He notes, "I want the viewers to feel that they are experiencing or feeling a space that is much greater in scale and beauty than our current provincial earth experience allows."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Mount Vernon School District.
About the Artist
Artist Ed Praczukowski creates figurative and abstract paintings. He is a retired Professor Emeritus of Art at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he began teaching in 1965. He studied at the Boston Museum School and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan.
