About the Artwork

Arcata Globe is a print by artist David Wharton. The title refers to the city of Arcata, in northern California, where the artist lived at the time he made the print. Wharton printed the image by hand using an aluminum lithographic plate. He first drew the image onto the plate, which he exposed to acid. The negative space not protected by the drawing was etched away by the acid, leaving a raised image ready to be printed.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Administrative Office of the Courts.
