About the Artwork

Storm Warning is a photograph by artist Cay Lang. It is part of a project based on discarded flowers the artist collected from the San Francisco Flower Mart. This photograph plays with harmony and contrast among the different colors surrounding a single flower. She describes how flowers decay in different ways, much as humans respond in various ways to trauma. She notes, "Their range of responses extends from immediate drooping over and acquiescing to actively resisting by pushing outward, to wrapping their petals around each other in what appears to be an embrace."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Central Kitsap School District.
