About the Artwork

Salmon V is part of artist Bruce Amstutz's series of charcoal drawings that depict the movement of salmon and the interplay of light and darkness through water. Of this piece, Amstutz notes "I hope that the marks and lines themselves convey the kind of vigor, movement and necessity that I am trying to give to the salmon-- as though the same natural force that drives a salmon to return to its source has generated them."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Central Kitsap School District.
