About the Artwork
Chinatown Clothes is part of a series of photographs by artist Kenneth Allison. The series explores immigrant communities in Chicago and how the urban landscape has developed with new immigrants. Allison states that his work is "to show, appreciate, and honor the way new people are enriching and enlivening the texture of the old urban neighborhoods."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Kent School District.
About the Artist
Seattle-based artist Kenneth Allison works as a street photographer to capture the meaning and beauty of public spaces and urban environments. In his own words, "I’m fascinated by the process of photography; how it can bring together and compress all of the disparate elements of a street scene."
Allison studied photography at the University of Illinois. He moved to Seattle in 1972 after graduation and has lived and worked there ever since.
