About the Artwork
Stele II is part of a series of sculptures by artist Richard Deutsch influenced by architecture. He notes, "The surfaces are aggressively manipulated, chipped, scratched and polished to convey a personal vocabulary or 'hieroglyphs.' My intention is to create a modern-day 'artifact' with references to fragments of ancient buildings and relics, revealing past and present."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Patrol.
