Cinderella's Camisole, 1991

Nan Johnson
American (born 1950)

Location: Olympic College, Bremerton

About the Artwork

Artist Nan Johnson created the three-dimensional painting Cinderella's Camisole through a spontaneous process. She first paints abstract forms on both sides of her paper. Each form and color responds to the movement of the overall composition. She then begins to staple, fold, cut, and re-paint the paper until it becomes a balanced sculptural form. She notes, "When an artist creates without pre-planning or conscious judgement during the process the result is often a unique or unusual work of art. Humor and playfulness with color and line can be indulged in when judgement is suspended."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Olympic College.
