Dancer: Omak was created by artist Randy Hayes during a period focused on the American West. This portrait captures the vibrant colors and subtle ceremonial details of a Native American dancer from Omak, Eastern Washington. Hayes balances realism with expressive figuration.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline College.

About the Artist

Mississippi-based artist Randy Hayes creates figurative paintings, drawings, and photographs. He is known for his method of painting directly onto grids of photographs.
Born in Mississippi, Hayes studied sculpture and painting at Rhodes College in Tennessee. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Memphis College of Art in Tennessee in 1968. He lived and made art in Seattle from 1976 to 2013, where he also ran a bookstore and gallery for several years. He returned to Mississippi in 2013.
