About the Artwork
Artist Joyce Lopez created the mixed media sculpture Trip-TK by wrapping stainless steel tubes in cotton thread by hand. This labor-intensive process represents thousands of turns. Each tube takes several hours to wrap. The overall composition features bright, abstract patterns and forms. The artist notes that her intention is to "further the fiber field, taking it out of the craft arena and placing it firmly in the sculpture category."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Seattle College.
