Northwest artist Leland Standley creates gestural and impressionistic landscape paintings. He states: "I paint in the spirit that celebrates the union of humankind with nature." The energetic brushstrokes in this painting Contagious Calm evoke a sense of distance and atmosphere.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State House.

About the Artist

Northwest painter Leland Standley (1933-2016) created gestural and expressive landscapes. Describing his artistic process, Leland noted "I paint in the spirit that celebrates the union of humankind with nature". He was a resident of Vashon Island in South Puget Sound, Western Washington, for over 25 years.
