About the Artwork

Escogiendo (Making Choices) is a richly detailed and realist painting that depicts a mother and baby choosing from an array of colorful balloons, while a young girl in the foreground gazes at something outside the painting's borders. The imagery was inspired by a family the artist Heleodoro Heras encountered in San Miguel de Allende, Central Mexico.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Evergreen School District.

About the Artist

Heleodoro Heras is a Washington-based artist and illustrator. Born in Mexico, Heras emigrated to America as a teenager and graduated from Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles after military service. His realistic portraits and figurative paintings are inspired by frequent visits to Mexico.
