About the Artwork

Tulips and Peonies is an intricate colored-pencil drawing by artist Bet Borgeson. Many of the artist's drawings depict a narrative that is open for interpretation by the viewer. This piece is inspired by 17th and 18th century Dutch painters, who created a genre of still-life paintings that featured bouquets of flowers arranged to highlight their expressive symbolic meaning. The artist notes that this composition aims to communicate "energy, competitiveness, and exuberance."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.

Bet Borgeson creates richly detailed colored pencil drawings. She teaches art and has published several books on colored pencil techniques.
