About the Artwork
Secrets is part of artist Toni Lawson Norris' series 'All God's Children.' This series developed from Norris's interest in painting children from diverse ethnic backgrounds. It also seeks to capture the open emotions and feelings expressed by children. This picture is based on a photograph of the artist's husband and his sister at ages four and six. She notes, "During early childhood, there is an excitement and suspense in knowing that a secret is going to be entrusted to you. You did not care how silly the secret, but each secret was special in itself and close attention was required. Not a word was going to be missed."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Beach School District.

Artist Toni Lawson Norris creates figurative paintings and prints. She often paints from photographs and is interested in "capturing the feeling of the moment and transferring it onto paper."Toni Lawson Norris was born in New York City and attended the NYC High School of Music & Art (now the LaGuardia High School of Music & the Arts).
