About the Artwork
Artist Garth Edwards created the stylized print Holdup using a linoleum block. He first carved the block to remove any areas he didn't want printed with ink. He then applied ink and a sheet of paper. He pressed the paper onto the block using the smooth back of a spoon, which transferred the ink to the paper. Describing his imagery, Edwards notes, "I like these birds and this guy. Nature is close and maybe bigger than us."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Social and Health Services.
