About the Artwork

HomeBody is the first piece in artist Sally Sellers' series of quilts featuring house imagery. Sellers began the series after her young daughter was moved from home to a nursing facility due to serious illness. Sellers notes that the body of work was created as an expressive means to comfort herself and to challenge our concept of home. A meditation on the instincts to nurture and protect, Sellers further notes that the house imagery in this piece references a woman's body. She states: "for most women, their house is a very direct extension of their body, providing comfort, security, and a target for their creativity"

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Skagit Valley College.
