About the Artwork

Aggregate by Leo Saul Berk places a map of the Snohomish River Delta in Northwestern Washington on the Everett Community College campus. The delta is illustrated with thousands of small colored glass pieces embedded in the surface of the plaza in front of the Learning Resource Center. The Snohomish River Delta’s channels bend and wrap around the city of Everett. They define the city’s boundaries and have provided resources for the city to flourish. Berk notes, “I like to think of this delta as a metaphor for the college’s Learning Resource Center: a location where resources are gathered from a broad area, creating a fertile environment for people to gather and connect with one another.”

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Everett Community College.

About the Artist

Berk grew up in a radically unconventional house in Illinois, designed by the American architect and painter Bruce Goff. He believes that this experience shaped him to become the artist he is today. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in 1997, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1999. He is based in Seattle, Western Washington.
