About the Artwork
Anne Storrs created eight building blocks representing what students are learning in each grade at Gregory Heights Elementary. Each block includes a bronze sculpture on top and ceramic tile mosaics on the sides. It all start with a block with a G and H for the school name and a compass on top. The blocks and sculptures continue with a nest of eggs for Kindergarten, and end with a bird-airplane taking off on the 6th block. Other sculptures include a bowl of words, strawberries, a potted plant, a crab, and a leaf and magnifying glass.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline School District.
About the Artist
Portland, Oregon-based artist Anne Storrs creates sculptures inspired by natural forms, and they often involve pattern and repetition. Her work includes small ceramic pieces as well as large-scale installations in metal, concrete, ceramic, and stone.
