About the Artwork
Artist Ross Matteson's Northern Flicker Monument is a six-foot tall bronze sculpture that depicts and celebrates the woodpecker bird species. He notes that this artwork is meant as "an expression of grace and beauty." It is a light-hearted and charming focal point at a busy outdoor location where many students gather.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Seattle College.
About the Artist
Olympia, Washington-based artist Ross Matteson creates sculptures in a variety of media and for diverse public and private venues. He is a falconer, and his visual imagery is often inspired by birds and natural forms. He received his Bachelor of Arts from The Evergreen State College in Olympia.
