About the Artwork

Thinking Cap #2 is part of a series of sculptures created by artist and professor Jean Mandeberg. The series began after a student in her studio class brought a hairdresser's chair into the studio space, and would sit under the attached hair drying hood to concentrate and solve problems. Mandeberg was inspired to create a series of sculptures that functioned as "tools to stimulate the imagination and heighten the awareness of the viewer or the hypothetical wearer."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Corrections.
