About the Artwork

Artist Laura Sindell's sculpture Ghost Trees honors those removed to make way for construction. It suggests ideas about of regeneration, growth, and support. Repeated words wrap the trunks, calling to mind a memory song, but in this case, of biological terms.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Lake Washington Institute of Technology.

About the Artist

Seattle-based artist and photographer Laura Sindell creates mosaics and sculptural installations for public spaces. She has served many K-12 schools and universities as a teaching artist and ceramics instructor since the 1970s.
Sindell studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and at the Photographic Center Northwest in Seattle, Washington. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1975.
