About the Artwork
Artist William Moore envisioned this sculpture as a "model or prototype for a new species of insect." He began by designing the compound eyes, body and wings from his imagination. He constructed the sculpture in parts, using a technique known as lamination. He layered and glued together pieces of wood to form a larger mass. He then carved, filed, and sanded each piece until they fit together.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.
