True Cod Love, 1989

Kathleen Coyle
American (born 1957)

Location: Kingston Middle School, Kingston

About the Artwork

True Cod Love is part of artist Kathleen Coyle's group of mixed-media artworks that combine textile elements with wax-resist painting, printing, and collaged elements. These works feature cat and fish motifs in brightly colored scenes. In this whimsical composition, the cat character sits in bed eating chocolates, perhaps longing for the fish in the picture frame. Coyle asks the viewer to use their imagination to decide what happened between them: "did they break up, move away from each other, ever actually meet?"

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with North Kitsap School District.
