About the Artwork

Artist Kirk Pedersen painted Palm while living in Honolulu, Hawaii for a year. He has studied and photographed palm trees, making many works with palms as the main subject matter. For this piece, he chose a close-up point of view and vivid colors to create a dynamic, almost abstract composition.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with East Valley School District, Spokane.

About the Artist

Artist Kirk Pederson creates expressive paintings of urban and natural landscapes. He studied at the University of Colorado and the University of Nebraska. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Midland College in Nebraska. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University in California.
