Japanese Silk Calendar Quilt was conceived of after artist Sara Gilfert visited Japan, and was made by combining textiles and materials found during her travels with handmade "washi" paper elements.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Stanwood-Camano School District.
About the Artist
Sara Gilfert creates handmade paper artworks and is a master papermaker. She is the founder and director of Paper Circle in Ohio, a non-profit organization dedicated to the "celebration, preservation and advancement of the paper and book arts." Gilfert began as a fiber artist and traveled extensively to Eastern Asia, where she learned and explored Japanese paper making.
