About the Artwork

Charm/Tired Angel is a narrative painting by artist Linda Okazaki, depicting an emptying circus tent, an angel resting beneath a bare tree, and a surreal, foreboding horizon. The imagery symbolically references the 1986 nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, and the artist notes, "We have left our grandchildren with a legacy to call on higher creative forces of the imagination to solve problems that are part of this technological society we live in. Call on the angels they may be able to help, but even angels get tired."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Omak School District.

About the Artist

Port Townsend, Washington-based artist Linda Okazaki creates narrative, landscape, and still-life paintings.
Okazaki earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees from Washington State University in Pullman, Eastern Washington, in 1974. She was a member of Washington State University's Fine Arts Department for seven years. She currently teaches at the Port Townsend School of the Arts on the Olympic Peninsula in Northwestern Washington, where she also lives and paints.
