About the Artwork
Rockslide #12: Pilchuck is a realistic painting by artist Alan Moen. It is part of a series about rockslides in the Cascade Mountain Range. He based this image on the summit of Mount Pilchuck. He notes, "My motivation for the piece stems from an interest in the destructive forces of the natural world. I have found a kind of random order in these rock pathways of debris found in mountain places. To me, they are a natural balancing act of broken and shattered forms, varying textural surfaces, and patterns of light and shadow."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with South Kitsap School District.
