About the Artwork
The Queen City Kestrel is part of artist Kim Hoffman's series of wooden sculptures called "Birdboxes." The sculpture is filled with different geometric shapes. The many layers of these elements invite the viewer to look closely. The artist notes, "The boxes are a narrative about my interests, my awareness of the non-human world, and my personal experiences in life with people… Often I am trying to represent a gesture or experience; sometimes assigning in my own mind a specific person to a shape within the box and then relating it spatially to other shapes in the box."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Ferndale School District.
