About the Artwork

Artist William Moore created the curved forms of Gas Works by "turning" the wooden pieces on a lathe. Named for the Seattle park located at the site of the Seattle Gas Light Company, the sculpture's form resembles the old gas plant's structures.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Nooksack Valley School District.

About the Artist

Oregon-based artist William Moore creates mixed media sculpture using lathe-turned elements that combine wood, metal, ceramic, and fiber materials. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in design from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1967. He went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture from the the University of Michigan in 1971.
