About the Artwork

Lavender with Jade is a blown glass vase created by artist Sonja Blomdahl. It is part of her body of glass vessels playing with color relationships. She notes, "The distinct separation of color is made by blowing two bubbles (of different colors) opening them to the same size and joining them together while still hot. I then continue to blow the final form. This particular piece I blew while teaching a workshop in Vail, Colorado in July 1983. I added the ruby red stripes to contrast against the jade green and lavender top. I like its boldness."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.
