About the Artwork
Ascension is part of a body of paintings by artist Alison Johnston inspired by her rural home on San Juan Island. She notes, "I live in the country on an island amidst a puzzle of land and water where changing landscapes, strong color and interlocking forms combine to create visual tension and drama in my work. I love the pure, the whimsical and lyrical."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Pasco School District.
About the Artist
Painter Alison Johnston creates still life, landscape and narrative paintings inspired by the northwest environment and her travels abroad.Johnston was born in Massachusetts and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cornish Institute in Seattle in 1981. She is based on San Juan Island, in North Puget Sound, Western Washington.
