About the Artwork

It Was Further Than I Thought is a landscape painting created by late artist Leland Standley. The composition evolved over a two-year period. He notes, "The painting took longer than I thought it would, hence the title. I have been painting for 25 years and am still learning. Learning how to paint (and live) has taken longer than I thought; but the journey has been interesting and largely enjoyable. This painting refers to no specific location but rather attempts to describe feelings I sometimes have when I am more at one with my landscape and not self-centered."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Oakville School District.
