About the Artwork

Artist Roger Jones was inspired to paint Woodside Warbler and Rabbit after discovering neighborhood green-belts full of wildlife that survive despite being only yards away from dense urban areas. This artwork is part of a curated collection by Renee Adams for the Maple Park Capitol Campus Child Care Center in Olympia. The art selection committee wanted the art to be mainly for the children. They wanted to focus on Northwest artists from diverse backgrounds and geographies, and artworks with color and nature-inspired imagery. The Child Care Center has six classrooms, as well as outdoor classrooms and play spaces, for eighty-four children.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Department of Enterprise Services.

About the Artist

Northwest painter and art teacher Roger Jones creates figurative, pastoral landscapes in imaginative compositions.
Jones graduated from Kennewick High School in Southeastern Washington, studied education at Central Washington State College (now Central Washington University) in Ellensburg, and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1972. He has taught drawing and painting classes at Edmonds Junior High School, Bellevue Community College, Spectrum at the University of Washington, Bellevue Art Museum School, and Western Washington University in Bellingham, Northwestern Washington. He has also worked as an illustrator for Boeing.
