Linaceae #34 is a colorful geometric quilt created by artist Carol Tate. The title refers to the Linaceae family of flowering plants. Commonly known as the Flax family, it includes plants whose fibers are used to make linen fabrics.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State Arts Commission.

About the Artist

Carol Tate is a textile artist and designer. She began her art career as a painter and botanical illustrator in her home town of Houston, Texas. Relocating to Seattle in her early twenties, Tate started creating hand-pieced and hand-dyed textiles. During the 1980s-90s, she ran a Seattle home furnishings and décor showroom based on textiles. She now works and lives in the Texas Hill Country.
