About the Artwork
Artist David Gallagher created the abstract Wall Sculpture from redcedar wood. He created it by joining wood segments shaped with different carving tools. As a whole, the sculpture presents a dynamic interaction between textures and forms.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Battle Ground Public Schools.
About the Artist
Olympia, Washington-based artist and professor David Gallagher (1937-1981) created abstract sculptures in wood. He taught at The Evergreen State College, in Olympia, Western Washington, from 1978 until his death in 1981. He previously also taught at the University of Denver in Colorado and at the University of Washington in Seattle.
Gallagher earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Washington University in Ellensburg and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Washington in Seattle.
