About the Artwork
Lummi Lady by James Mattingly is an etching based on a historic 1899 photograph by Edward Curtis. It is representative of Mattingly's richly detailed and incisive portraits which explore "the dignity of man." Mattingly mainly created richly detailed intaglio prints where the imagery is carved or etched into a surface and the finely carved lines hold the ink.
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline College.
