About the Artwork

Burnt Bridge is a wooden sculpture created by artist Michael Loomis. It is comprised of three standalone forms referencing the supports of a bridge. The artwork’s title is also the name of a nearby creek that runs through the city of Vancouver, in Southwestern Washington. In 1889, a small wooden bridge was built over the creek to connect growing neighborhoods. A fire destroyed this bridge in the early 1890s, which gives the creek its name.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Evergreen School District.

About the Artist

Michael Loomis is a Seattle-based sculptor. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in sculpture from the University of Oregon in Eugene in 1975. He has served as an artist-in-residence for schools in Washington and Oregon.
