About the Artwork

Artist Carl Rowe's painting Impingement captures the movement of river water rushing between stones. He notes, "I have spent many weeks on whitewater rivers in the West, floating through their canyons and running their rapids. It is one of my favorite places to be. I wanted to try to get at the feeling of power and movement of hard-running water. I also wanted to capture the shapes of water as it moves over objects or through openings. Whitewater is like fire in that one can spend endless hours just staring into it, getting lost in its shapes and patterns and power."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Entiat School District.

About the Artist

Rowe received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Luther College in Iowa. He studied acting at the Goodman School of Drama at the Chicago Art Institute, and dance at the University of California at Santa Cruz.
