About the Artwork

Adagio is a mixed-media wall sculpture by artist Katherine Holzknecht. This piece is part of a series of metal wall sculptures that feature a patina finish. The artist often saw snails with beautiful spiral shells in her garden, which inspired the composition. The title refers to a slow musical tempo, and references her slow and skillful process used to create this piece.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Warden School District.
