About the Artwork
Blue Treasure is part of a series of painted canvas floorcloths and hangings created by artist Constance Parker Miller. Using a stamp made from layers of felt, Miller plays with texture, pattern and color. To design this cloth, she studied patterns in traditional Navajo weaving. She notes, "I was fascinated by the effect of the over and under weave on the design, how it added an active light-like effect, making the viewer's eye move across the design in an expansive diagonal direction."
This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Bethel School District.
About the Artist
Northwest artist Constance Parker Miller primarily creates painted canvas floorcloths that explore color, form, and sensation. She calls this medium "a place, a stage, territory, geography, a story board, a game, a vehicle, and a magic carpet." Before developing her visual art practice, Miller pursued a career in theater. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
