About the Artwork

Artist Brad Rude's cast bronze sculpture The Discoverer shows a single goat balancing a tower of objects on its head. The surface of the goat and the objects represent education in a variety of ways: such as a lightbulb, woolly mammoth, telescope, paintbrush, brick, amphora jug, apple, and more. Rude notes, "I portray animals in situations that mimic our own lives. The animals are a stand in for us."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Central Washington University.
