About the Artwork

Children and Stars is a mixed-media painting by artist Kathleen Coyle, created by layering charcoal, pastel, pencil, and acrylic paint. Coyle composed the figures to be unique but stylistically similar, and notes "stars are suns in our galaxy, children I believe are suns in our lives, they bring brightness and wonder to our lives."

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Ridgefield School District.

About the Artist

Kathleen Coyle is a Seattle-based artist who creates textiles, mixed media artworks, and jewelry.
Coyle attended Kent State University as a Design and Craft major from 1975 to 1977. In the summer of 1977, she traveled around the United States before landing in Seattle. In 1982, she graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Textile Design.
